Frequently asked questions

✧ When it's the time to go to therapy?

Most mental issues are influenced by a series of biopsychosocial factors, we all can have hard experiences, whether it would be losing a job, the death of a family member, a separation, geographical change, family problems... But when these events go in extreme causing great discomfort, they last more than normal and disable you in daily life activities, you feel some of the following symptoms that don't heal over time or you cannot find a way to overcome it, accept it or give it another perspective.

✧ What is a therapeutic relationship like?

Under a safe, open, non-judmental and maximum confidentiality atmosphere, we build a bond with trust, respect and acceptance. So we can discuss the issue with complete freedom of expression, the client shares intimate thoughts, beliefs and emotions and together we will work towards the purpose of therapy.

✧ Worrying about mental health means I'm weak, flawed or mad?

Due to certain social stereotypes created about the profession and patients, we often don't go to therapy for fear of being judged as such. Actually, most of the people who request help are normal people who find themselves in a complicate struggle that is hard to handle or they want to improve on their personal growth, so in psychology we address the person as client and not as patient. .

Need to use medication?

I don't prescribe psychoactive drugs, in fact, some of my clients use medication, such as for anxiety or depression, in these cases, what we do in consultation is to monitor the drug effects and combine it with cognitive-behavioral techniques to deal with the problem.

✧ How long does therapy last?

The treatment plan is variable, it depends on the problem and each person, with weekly sessions of around 60 minutes. In cases in which I consider that it is not within my competence or we do not achieve the established goals, it will be referred to another colleague. Cases such as child psychology, perinatal or sexual psychology are not part of my professional field.

Above all, the evaluation is crucial, to know what is happening, why it happens and how to address the situation, it usually takes between 3 to 5 sessions.
